【摘要】How regional clusters – and the ?rms constituting it – respond to major economicshocks has only recently become the centre of attention in regional research. Taking the conceptof ‘adaptive resilience’ as a point of departure, and using a mixed methods approach (?rmsurvey, multivariate analysis, expert interviews), this study explores the response of cluster andnon-cluster ?rms of the German mechanical engineering sector during the initial phase of thecrisis (2008–2009). Findings show a signi?cantly more positive employment trend in cluster?rms than in non-cluster ?rms. Further analyses of the mechanisms that allow cluster ?rms toexhibit more resilience than other ?rms suggest that solidarity and altruism among regionalactors were of particular importance in the beginning of the crisis.
